Alex's self portrait and artist statement
In my photo I have a doll standing on top of some books. In the background is the wall of my room with some posters. The doll looks like me and is wearing clothes that I would wear. The doll symbolizes my physical self. The books that she is standing on are some of my favorite books. These books represent me mentally. In the pile of books there is, Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Little Women by Louisa Mary Alcott, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Falling for Hamlet by Michelle Ray, The Fault in our Stars by John Green, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. On the top of the pile are my top two favorite children novels, Marry Poppins by P.L. Travers and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. The wall in the background with pictures and quotes of Marilyn Monroe symbolize me mentally. The doll is on the books to symbolize my world and what is important to me in my world.
