Since I am the person who is playing guitar in the picture, it shows that I am highly interested in music, especially in guitar and singing. However, by not showing my face, I tried to tell I’m not confident with showing myself playing in front of others yet. I chose a long, big sofa as my background to show that I enjoy sleeping. Unfortunately, I am a lazy person. I don’t think sleeping can be part of my advantage, but since it is the most suitable word to represent my characteristic, a sofa, where I can take sweet nap became the background of my picture. This is picture a little dark and posterized, to show my recent days, which don’t have clear ways to follow.
To create this photogram, I had to follow the steps. Firstly, I took this picture with my phone by asking my friend to take it for me. Then, I moved the file to my lap top, sent it to my email, and printed out. Since a special paper was used, I needed help from my media studies teacher and classmates. After printing out my negative image, I went to the dark room. I used a small piece of paper to test and see how long should the timer be set. The best time for my picture seemed to be 10 seconds, and my prediction was right. When I got the result, I was very satisfied with it.
While doing this project, I actually spent a hard time. "We don't know who we are" this is a Korean old saying. I strongly agree with the sentence, because I didn't have any ideas about expressing myself. Before I took the picture, I wondered, asked, and wondered again for multiple times, to come up with a nice self portrait. Nevertheless, even if the process was not easy, I think this project gave me an opportunity to look around and think deeper about myself.
