Self Portrait Artistic Statement

Final Image (print)-
Artistic Statement-
My final self-portrait reflects on aspects of my individuality and personality. In the image I
purposefully used color, connection, abstract and symbolic representations to
encompass myself. The element emphasized in the image is the two images I chose
to use. One image is a photo of me as a toddler and the other is a recent photo
of me. I chose to include these two images because I wanted to display how I
have changed throughout my life. It is obvious that I have aged but I wanted to
show that I have stayed the same not only in facial structure but in my morals
and yet develop as a person. I also included in my self-portrait the connection
of my eyes to make a new whole. I connected two of my eyes to create three
eyes. The three eyes are from Hinduism influence and that point represents
occult power and wisdom. I practice yoga often and I wanted to display my “eye
of insight” that I have discovered through meditation and yoga. The final piece
of my self-portrait is the dramatic contrasting use of black and white. I
wanted to have a drastic difference in color to show change to symbolize how I
have developed physically and mentally since I was younger. I believe everyday
I find out something new about myself.
Everyday I learn something new and I believe I have grown and progressed
as a person and I have more to expand upon through my life.
Trial and Error-
During my time in the dark room I created two photograms.
When I made my first photogram I accidentally made a mistake by have the image
crooked and mistakenly created the image reversed. The second image I created
turned out perfectly aligned and was exactly how I wanted it.
